In 2006, The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) completed a new bridge over Interstate-40 on Hall of Fame Drive in the city of Knoxville as a part of the "Smart Fix 40" Project.

The TDOT decided to take the opportunity to add aesthetic appeal to the city's roadways while improving traffic flow. The Hall of Fame Bridge, as a gateway to Knoxville was a perfect candidate for beautification.

The design of the bridge features custom light beacons manufactured by the O'Hanlon Group. Each beacon uses multiple STR8 LED strip luminaires by GVA Lighting as the light source. The STR8 Luminaires provide sufficient lumen output to saturate the beacons with light while keeping maintenance and operation cost to a minimum with their long life and low energy consumption.
