Mattancherry Museum

PROJECTS / RETAIL AND DISPLAY

The Mattancherry Palace in Kochi, India is a building with considerable history behind it. The Palace was built by the Portuguese circa 1555 and was later renovated by the Dutch. In 1985 the Palace became a museum and a protected monument. Beginning in 2006, reorganization and refurbishment of the museum was undertaken. Included in the updates was a lighting upgrade to international standards for the Gallery featuring paintings of 19th century Kochi Kings.

To illuminate the life size portraits, GVA Lighting's STR14 LED Strip Luminaires are cantilever mounted over each painting. The STR14 was specified for its discrete profile, high brightness and lack of ultraviolet or infrared radiation which could potentially be harmful to the aging and delicate canvases.
