Ryerson University
PROJECTS / ARCHITECTURE
Ryerson University is one of Canada’s leading universities that focus on applied, career-oriented education. Located in downtown Toronto, Canada, its campus surrounds the busy Yonge-Dundas Square.
Under the guidance of Diamond + Schmitt Architects, the university’s School of Image Arts was made over for the 21st century with an exterior frosted glass covering backed by thousands of GVA Lighting’s LED lights.
Designed by Ion Luh of Crossey Engineering and specified by Rutenberg Sales, the luminaires were installed behind the glass facing towards a white wall to allow for even illumination of the facade. Approximately 760 custom STR9®-RGBs were used and programmed to engage pedestrians in a lively myriad of colours each night.
Winner of the 2012 Light & Architecture Design Awards for Best Use of Colour.
